Parenting Skills Class

Parenting Course Overview

A Parenting Course (or sometimes called Divorce Class) is required by the state of Florida for parents or the concerned parties to obtain a divorce when there are children involved. Parents may also take this course to learn about the impacts divorce can have on their family, as well as the best way to handle the difficult transition. Additionally, make sure you understand the process of filing for a divorce.

Our Parent Education and Family Stabilization course is approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and will meet your court requirement. The Florida DCF works hard to support the stabilization of families, not only for those involved, but for the communities around them. Research has proven that unstable families or families that end in divorce adversely impact communities and government economically and socially.

The course consists of 9 modules that cover the following topics:

  • Divorce as Loss — Learn about the emotional, physical and social transitions of divorce.
  • Parental Role — Learn about shared parental responsibility.
  • Developmental Stages — Study the common reactions of children and how they understand divorce by age group.
  • Communicating with Your Children — Discover techniques to talk with your children, and tips to help them through the divorce.
  • Abuse — Learn about domestic violence, including spousal and child abuse.
  • Legal Concepts — Study the rules and explanations about shared parental responsibility, child support, visitation and many other legal concepts applicable to divorce.
  • Visitation — Discover the best way to make visitation count and plan accordingly for the children’s benefit.
  • Additional Help — Learn where you can get additional help regarding the circumstances surrounding your divorce.
